Q: Albert invested an amount of Rs. 8000 in a fixed deposit scheme for 2 years at compound interest rate 5 p.c.p.a. How much amount will Albert get on maturity of the fixed deposit
A. Rs.8320
B. Rs.8620
C. Rs.8520
D. Rs.8820
Solution: Amount = Rs.8000*1+51002= Rs.8820
Q: Sonika invested an amount of Rs.5800 for 2 years. At what rate of compound interest will she get an amount of Rs.594.50 at the end of 2 years ?
A. 5%
B. 4.5%
C. 6%
D. 6.5%
Solution: C.I = P1+r100t-1

594.5 = 58001+r1002-1
 594.55800+1=1+r1002

r100=1.05-1=0.05=> r = 5 % .
Q: There is 50% increase in an amount in 5 years at simple interest. What will be the compound interest of Rs. 12,000 after 3 years at the same rate ?
A. Rs. 6145
B. Rs. 3972
C. Rs. 5489
D. Rs. 5422
Solution: Let p = Rs. 100.
Then, S.I is Rs. 50 and time = 5 years.
∴ R = 100×50100×5= 10% p.a.

Now, p = Rs. 12,000 , T = 3 years and R = 10% p.a.
C.I. = Rs. 12000×1+101003-1= Rs. 3972
Q: A car owner buys petrol at Rs 7.50, Rs. 8 and Rs. 8.50 per litre for three successive years. What approximately is the average cost per litre of petrol if he spends Rs. 4000 each year ?
A. 9.89
B. 6.23
C. 8.97
D. 7.98
Solution: Total quantity of petrol consumed in 3 years =(4000/7.50+4000/8+4000/8.50) liters

                                                         = 4000(2/15+1/8+2/17) liters

                                                         = 76700/51 liters

Total amount spent = Rs. (3 x 4000) = Rs. 12000.

Average cost = Rs. (12000*51/76700) = Rs. 7.98.
Q: A team of 8 persons joins in a shooting competition. The best marksman scored 85 points. If he had scored 92 points, the average score for the team would have been 84. The number of points, the team scored was :
A. 665
B. 658
C. 678
D. 657
Solution: Let the total score be x.
(x + 92 - 85) / 8 = 84.
So,  x + 7 = 672   => x = 665.
Q: A batsman in his 17th innings makes a score of 85 and their by increasing his average by 3. What is his average after the 17th innings ?
A. 37
B. 34
C. 35
D. 36
Solution: 16x + 85 = 17(x + 3)
x = 34 + 3 = 37
Q: Ian has 14 boxes of paper and divides them evenly between 4 coworkers. How many whole boxes did each coworker get?
A. 3.5
B. 3
C. 2.5
D. 2
Solution: Given number of boxes = 14
Number of workers = 4
Now, number of whole boxes per worker = 14/4 = 3.5
Hence, number of whole boxes per each coworker = 3
Q: Average age of A and B, 2 years ago was 26. If the age of A, 5 years hence is 40 years, and B is 5 years younger to C, then find the difference between the age of A and C?
A. 15
B. 16
C. 12
D. 9
Solution: Let the present ages of A & B to be ‘a’ & ‘b’ respectively. Hence, 2 years ago, their ages must have been (a-2) & (b-2) respectively. Average of their ages at that time = 26 Hence, [(a-2)+(b-2)]/2 = 26 (a-2)+(b-2) = 52 a+b = 56 Age of A, 5 year hence = 40 years Hence, (a+5) = 40 a = 35 years Hence, b = 56 - 35 = 21 years B = (C-5) Hence, C = 21+5 = 26 years Age difference between A & C = 35 - 26 = 9 years.
